The Thai massage is based on the principles of the energy channels known as “nadis” in the yoga science. The roots of the Thai Yoga Massage are to be found in the Ayurveda. It works through acupressure on the energy lines, called “sen” in the Thai medicine, and through passive yoga stretches, releasing blockages along the energy lines that in long term lead to illnesses.

The Indian head massage is an ayurvedic massage helping to release tensions in between the shoulder blades and in the shoulders and neck area. This massage technique regulates the whole metabolism and works on the organs through pressure along the cranial reflex zones and the massage of the skin covering the skull. The mind gains clarity and the whole body-mind-system relaxes deeply.

The Enneagram is a self-understanding method based on a system of different personalities.  It is a powerful tool towards transformation through awareness, showing us our thought-patterns and habitual behaviours that can bring us into trouble in our daily life. The knowledge of our personality (ego-structure) helps us to understand our conditioning, our defense-mechanisms and our blind spots. If we approach the Enneagram therapy with honesty and loving kindness it can change our lives. It definitely changed mine!

My experience as a yoga therapist has taught me that due to the daily routine in our society, stress, a restless mind, the lack of awareness and relaxation in daily life lead to many psychosomatic symptoms, which create in long term discomfort and disease in the sense of “dis-ease”.  Symptoms like lower back pain, high blood pressure, insomnia and dysfunctions of inner organs are the sign of an imbalance on all the levels of our being, physical, psychological and emotional.

The yoga therapy works therefore on all these different levels, combining asanas (body postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), yoga nidra (guided relaxation), healing hands-on-relaxation, meditation, Thai massage, Indian head massage and the self-understanding method Enneagram, which helps the client to investigate the thought-patterns and the behaviors that cause the psycho-physical symptomatic.

For me the ultimate goal of yoga therapy is to reduce suffering. According to the need of the client, a therapeutic program combining all these different techniques and including counseling regarding the use of the principles of awareness, right attitude and action in daily life will be developed, helping to maintain and improve the health and achieve a psycho-physical balance.
